Mission: Help people find group friendship by facilitating more meaningful in-person connections.
(Some of) The Social Science Behind Friendship and Social Connectivity.
Existing friendship solutions relying on critical flaws: superficial selection bias and not enough focus on in-person.
I want to help people connect through what is supported by social research. I think people are best served by being connected based on some of the following:
- Shared values and characteristics.
- Shared goals & life circumstances/position.
- Proximity & Distance.
- Shared experiences & adversities.
About Me.
For as long as I can remember I have been passionate about understanding people. Almost my entire professional life has been dedicated to understanding people in one way or another.
I started in theology – understanding people’s relationship with a higher power, but it wasn’t the right fit for me. Next, I turned to a bachelor’s degree in Social Anthropology & Sociology – understand people’s relationship with culture and group social connection. I even had brief stint working as a museums curator – understanding people’s relationship to the past. I finally settled into a corporate insights career, combining quantitative and qualitative research methods. Most recently I branched out into ensuring people confidently engage with software. But my passionate remains the same, understanding people and in-person group social connection.

With OcialReef I am interest in helping solving the challenge of loneliness, feelings of isolated, and making meaningful in-person friend groups. I’m not anchored to my approach; I will remain responsive to what works and and what doesn’t.
I am convinced given the right conditions, most everyone can make more meaningful in-person social connections and friendships.
